Does somebody know any good spots to fish in-shore in Tarpon Springs or New Port Richey?
29.June, 2009
Almost anywhere you can find water that flows either incoming or out going tides. Around boat ramps and docks is a good place to try. When your looking for a good place notice were others are fishing and note them for your next trip. Good Luck
We have lots of trout! We've been experimenting w/ different rubs, pan frying, and some grilling. Do you know of any new or unusual recipe ideas?
Sea trout – 900g (2 lb), cleaned
Lemon juice – 3 tbsp
Butter – 50g (2 oz)
Watercress – 1 bunch, roughly chopped
Fresh spinach leaves – 110g (4 oz), roughly chopped
Fresh parsley – 3 tbsp, chopped
Fresh chervil – 2 tbsp, chopped
Fresh dill – 1 tsp, chopped
Mayonnaise – 150 ml (ΒΌ pint)
Fresh herbs and whole unpeeled cooked prawns – to garnish
Place the fish in the centre of a large piece of foil. Add 2 tablespoons of the lemon juice, then dot with 25g (1 oz) of the butter. Seal the foil, weigh the fish and place on a baking sheet. Calculate the cooking time at 10 minutes per 450g (1 lb). Bake until tender. Remove the fish from the foil, reserving the cooking liquor, then carefully remove the skin while still warm. Arrange the fish on a serving dish and leave to cool. To make the sauce, put the cooking liquor and the remaining butter in a saucepan and heat gently. Add the watercress, spinach, parsley, chervil and dill, then cook for 2-3 minutes, until softened. Put the sauce in a food processor or blender and work it until smooth. Transfer to a bowl and add the remaining lemon juice. Leave to cool, then fold in the mayonnaise. Turn into a small serving bowl and chill until required. When the fish is cold, garnish with fresh herbs and whole prawns, if liked. Serve with the herb sauce.

Can someone reccommend me hardware I could possibly find on ebay to do it myself?
How much it would cost to get it professionally done?
I have a bunch of 16mm videos I'd like to transfer to computer as well as photoslides that are aging.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Apparently there are purpose built scanners for converting 16mm film to digital image files, but they seem to be quite expensive (> $10,000). The few I've seen docs for anyway.
Then there's this guy. He's been fooling around with converting 16mm to digital form using conventional flatbed scanners.

Sounds like a fair amount of work, but fairly inexpensive. With some effort, you could probably end up with a decent end result.
There's also establishments that'll do your scanning for you. Like this one:
http://www.homemoviedepot.com/
It includes a handy pricing calculator. From a little playing around with that I'd say you can expect to pay about $50 a film through them or so. But it depends on how many feet you've got in each, how many dvd copies you want, stuff like that.
These are just examples. It'd be a good idea to look around more than I did…

Can you recommend a good hotel for a family within walking distance to Fisherman’s Wharf?
29.June, 2009
I need a decent (but not super expensive) hotel within walking distance to Fisherman’s Wharf. We are surprising our kids (ages 12 & 15) to a trip to San Francisco. None of us have been, so any recommendations would be great…is China Town near Pier 39? Is it worth going to China Town? We want to do Alcatraz for sure! How is the weather in the Fall? Thanks for your info!
SF is an amazing city and one of my personal favourites. First of all, Chinatown is not near the Fishermen’s Wharf, and there are many places to stay in SF – you don’t have to stay in the most “touristy” location. I love Chinatown and I think it is definitely worth it. Next to it, the Little Italy, which has great restaurants, but I would definitely visit other quarters as well – the United Nations Plaza on market days; the Asian-American museum; etc.
In Fisherman’s Wharf, I would personally recommend the Residence Inn if you can afford it: it is a suite hotel by Marriott, which means that you have a room suitable for all four of you. Their breakfasts are generous and great, and they are clean, have good service, and really worth the $20 or so that you might have to pay more for every night.

What is the best fishing bait to use in salt water?
29.June, 2009
I've heard "thread herring" is the best bait to use here in South Florida. Any suggestions?
I would listen to Dick & Ingun!
Although squid is an excellent bait for certain species of fish, it DOES NOT attract many "gamefish".
In SF if you only use deadbait/squid the average species of fish you will catch are: Whiting, Croaker, Drum, Sheephead, Sailors Choice, small Mangrove Snapper, Sailcats, Saltwater Cats, Toadfish, & various smaller "Pinfish".
Live Shrimp & Pogey/Menhaden or Finger Mullet is #1 for Spec Trout, Redfish, Flounder, Snook & most "gamefish".
Don't be confused with the tag "gamefish". Trout, Reds, Flounder, Snook, Snapper, Etc TASTE great! And most people hope to catch anything that has a "gamefish" tag.
You should also try fishing some artificial lures. You can cover more water and find "active, feeding, fish" quicker using lures than floating live or dead bait! The Berkley Comp makes great products for saltwater fishing.
Here's an example of how to rig-up your rods:
1 fishing rod would be outfitted with a floating popping cork "rig", which includes: 1/0 circle-hook,18-24" leader of Berkley "Vanish" in 12-14 LB test & a popping cork.
(Circle hooks are super-easy to use if your a "novice" fisherman because you don't have to learn the "striking position". You just reel quickly and the circle-hook (90% of the time) will automatically "stick" the fish in the side of the mouth!)
Rod 2 would be outfitted thus:
Med-Med Heavey spinning-rod spooled with 12 LB "Vanish". A 1/4-1/2 OZ Chartruese/green Jig tied on with some form of Berkely Grub-body/Mullet Body/Pogey Body attached. (Or Berkley's Swimming Shrimp lure!)
"Cast-out" your live Shrimp or Pogey/Finger Mullet rigged rod, and while your waiting for a "bite", be casting your "lure-rigged" rod.
If you only use squid or dead bait your odds on catching anything big/huge, (and TASTY!), is diminished by 70%! I don't know 1 pro guide or Charter Capt that uses dead bait all the time!
Hope this helps ya? Good Luck!
PS: Thread Herring is called "Menhaden", "Bunker" , or "Pogey" in fishing circles. And "YES" it is a great bait! You need a circular live-well to keep them alive for any extended period of time.
How do you tackle someone in football?
29.June, 2009
Im about 5'7, skinny, and still growing. Im in grade 9 and am thinking about going for cornerback for my school footballl team next year. Im pretty quick, and am good at catching but I need to know how to tackle. Can I please get some good tips on how to tackle? And some information and advice for cornerbacks. Thanks.
It's a little dif for me to tackle someone then you seeing how i'm 5'10 240 but if you want to be a corner and ur kinda smaller go for the knees because you can't run without knees. The correct way is to break down in an atheletic stance, put your shoulder in his stomach, wrap your arms around him, lift, and drive him down to the ground.Oh and to roger offence is for pussys. From Kyle Smith Magnolia High School All-Valley D-Tackle.
can i keep a goldfish and a grass carp in the same aquarium? do i need any special equipment or anything?
29.June, 2009
i have a large goldfish, about 6 in long, and a grass carp about 7 in long. what do i need to do to keep them healthy and happy.
Cool clean water and a very large tank.
Your grass carp can reach close to 3 feet long. Your tank will need to be large enough to allow him to turn and swim.
Other than that a good filter.

What kind of lures do Atlantic Croaker go for?
29.June, 2009
I know its easier to catch them on bait but it get a little boring just sitting around. So I want to know what kind of lures they'll take.
The only lure I've caught Croaker on is a 3" Curly-tailed Grub dowsed heavily with Pogy flavored attractant. Jigs tipped with dead shrimp are deadly-but that isn't really a lure……
Croaker love fresh dead shrimp presented near or on bottom. So, whatever lure you decide to purchase, work it sloooooww and you will have better luck.
Good luck.
