Gone Fishin’!

If your talkin about lake tarpon in Tarpon Springs FL, most likely large mouth bass to get em you cant go wrong with shiners (you can purchase them at any bait shop, or do it the old fashion way and invest in a cast net.) or minnows. I live in New Mexico now but used to fish alot in Tarpon Lk, and all over Fl growing up and for bass fishing you cant go wrong with live bait.

Here’s what I usually do:

After you clean the fish, stuff it with chopped onions, celery, cilantro and sprinkle in some lemon pepper. Then wrap the fish in bacon and then wrap some tin foil around it. Throw it on the grill and when it’s close to done, remove the foil and finish cooking without the foil.

It comes out pretty good! However, my wife’s not crazy about that recipe. I’d like to make something different for a change; something that we’ll BOTH enjoy. So…

Does anyone know any good recipes for cooking rainbow trout on the grill??

HONEY-MUSTARD GRILLED TROUT:
1/4 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise
1 Tablespoon cider vinegar
1 Tablespoon prepared mustard
1 Tablespoon honey
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
4 large onions, cut into 1/2-inch slices
6 trout fiillets (6 ounces each)
Coat grill rack with nonstick cooking spray before starting the grill. In a bowl, combine the first five ingredients. Place onions cut side down on grill rack with sides touching. Arrange fillets on onion slices. Cover and grill over medium-hot heat for 5 minutes. Baste with mustard mixture. Cook 5-6 minutes longer or until fish flakes easily with a fork, basting frequently. Discard onion slices. Yield: 6 servings.

no, never ever ever again

everytime i go out to sea with my fihing rods the reels get saltwater on them and the next day they are completely stiff and i can’t seem to get them working right again. please help!

Always - Always wash your reels in FRESH water as soon as you return from the coast and do it as soon as you can . Do it at the coast if at all possible and don`t forget the rod either. Wash any metal parts and your rod guides as well. I use a mild liquid hand soap and a rag. Really rinse them well ,use plenty of freshwater and apply a light coat of machine oil over the surface. If you are familiar with your equipment take the reel apart and clean thoroughly every time you visit the coast. This is not an option. Thy have to be cleaned if you want to keep them in working order.Saltwater will destroy them if you don`t.

What lures do you use? Or do you just use bait and a plain hook? Wanted to try for anything - river has northern, bass, walleye, catfish, bullhead, etc. Never fished in river before and dont have a clue. Worried that we’re just going to get everything snagged. We’re fishing from shore…

Here I end up with jig heads and "grubs" mostly green or white in color
weight depends on the rod I want to use that day from 1/8 to 1/4 Oz heads. The larger heads are good for casting into deeper pools of water and the lighter ones for shallow slower moving waters. Nice thing is, you can get a pack of heads and a pack or two of grubs for less the $10. and fish for days with good results.

If your in the US head for walmart I use the plain un painted ones and the basic plastic grubs.
