What would happen if I tried to clean and fry a dogfish or carp like any other fish?

What would happen if I ate a dogfish (bowfin) or a carp? Are they toxic, or do they just not taste good? I know largemouth bass don’t taste good, but how do these types of fish compare to largemouth bass?
Cook the carp over a fire on a piece of wood.
Then eat the piece of wood, it’ll taste better.

I don’t know about Dogfish, but Carp is not too bad if properly cleaned and soaked in buttermilk prior to cooking.

Any kind of rough fish earned that name for a reason, they’re not good to eat. What’s wrong with Large-Mouth Bass? They’re great to eat. Carp can be served a specific way and eaten but if fixed the normal way they will taste like crap.

I was recently watching WFN, (World Fishing Network), and they have a show called "Cook your Catch" which featured Carp as the main dish.
They soaked it in whole milk and then applied a Blackening seasoning & grilled it.
It actually looked appealing….which is amazing.
I tried Fried Carp once and it had the foul taste of mud and burning lake hydrilla. YUCKKK!
(Understand that Blackening seasoning is such a strong seasoning that ANY meat would only have it’s flavoring.)
Like BC said- LM Bass taste a heap better than Carp!

put the carb on a piece of particle board, cover it with olive oil and pepper, bake it in the oven for 4 hours. throw away the carp and serve the particle board with a nice white wine.

In my opinion, the best way to eat carp is to have it smoked. You can find it that way at fish markets, local meat markets and even in grocery stores here in Iowa. As for the dogfish (bowfin), toss it up on the bank and let it die and that might take a while. Large mouth bass is very tasty if you fillet it, cut the fillets in smaller pieces (about 2-3 bites), coat it with something like "Fry Magic" and either pan fry or deep fry. Larger pieces tend to taste a little stronger. This method works well for white bass, walleye and catfish as well.
Please don’t eat the smallmouth bass, catch and release, as they are the most fun to catch.

If you cleaned them like any other fish they would probably be full of bones. Clean carp correctly and a lot of people eat them.
Dogfish would gag a maggot.
