Quick shot artistry is difficult enough with a rifle or shotgun, but try archery. Add to that being on the water in the dark of night.

Dan Richardson joins host Tim Farmer to take aim on bighead carp and other exotic fish below Kentucky and Barkley dams. It’s pulse pounding action as these outdoorsmen have a two-second window to aim and claim in this different take on fishing.

I live in minnesota and there is alot of common carp around where i live in the rivers. i usually bottom fish with nightcrawlers or chicken liver and catch cat fish and sheepshead. but i was wondering how to catch carp because i see them jumping all day and want to catch them on the days where i dont catch anything else. any suggestions?

Here in the UK, fishing for Carp is as popular as Bass fishing is in the USA…. and as a result, just as the USA is a world leader in lure fishing technology, the UK is a world leader in inventing ways to fish for Carp.

On days they’re jumping about (especially when it’s warm), they’re usually to busy breeding to care about food…. but fishing with surface baits is a popular way to catch them in the UK during the summer months when they appear to be feeding on the surface.

One of the sneaky techniques we use is a "hair rig", where the bait is threaded onto a needle, then slid onto a seperate length of line attached to the hook:

They’re then used in conjunction with either a "bolt rig", or a controller float, with either a matchbox sized chunk of bread crust, or a "pop-up boilie" for bait (among other options)

there’s a pond down the street with what looks like 4 or 5 foot long carp and i really want to catch one.

It’s probably a grass carp, since common carps don’t get that big (3 feet and a few inches, maybe 4 feet.). If you are stretching you’re fish size, and it’s a common carp then just plain bread on a size 4 baitholder hook will work. If you don’t know what kind of carp it is, here are pictures of both kinds of carp –

Other good baits for common carp include : corn, worms, dough balls, cheese, and marshmallows.

For grass carp : Grass carp normally don’t take lures, but common carp dough balls work sometimes. Grass carp are vegetarians.

good luck.

im going fishing for Carp in a lake near my house and am wondering what the best technique is. any help I appreciate a lot thanks!!!

Start with a nightcrawler first if they don bite that try corn, then try bread, if that fails you can make a dough bait…

I make a dough out of troutchow and artifical flavoring such as strawberry , butternut, mellofruit ,etc, or even make ball out of cooked rice and karo syurp. you make a loose doughball formed around a sugar pop(cereal). You put the sugar pop on your hook and formed a loose large ball around it. The dough would crumble underwater leaving a pile of your dough with the sugar pop exposed. The carp would eat the dough suck up the sugar pop and run with it.
Sounds complicated but it works good

P.S. make sure they are Common Carp and not Grass carp grass carp are totally different feeders than the common carp

They look like bipods.
You put your fishing pole on the bipod, and put your string in this sensor. When the fish pulls the bait it beeps.

Anyone know what these are called? And where i can buy them.

Rod holders.
