What are some lures to use in saltwater?
19.January, 2010
I live in Canada, Vancouver, and i go fishing at White Rock pier(it’s not exactly pier, it;s like pier) I havent caught anythin ther, i went there only like 2 times. I couldnt figure out the lures to use. So here are the questions.
1.What are some lures to use?
2.What tides are good?(Like 2 hours after the highest tide)
3.Does the tide reports like forecast, because it;s only 7:18PM here and it shows like after 12′o clock
Hey man i live on vancouver island and tidal fish from the docks all the time. Your best bet would not be lures it’s bait. I like to use small peices of herring, uncooked bacon, uncooked shrimp, small crabs and small mussels off the side of the dock. I fish all of these with a jig head like a 1/8 ounce and just drop it down to the bottom and then reel up a foot or so and jig it.
Use very small pulls from 9 o’clock to 10 or 11 o’clock it you use your body as clock and your rod as the hour hand. I would not use lures to much around here as there are not to many species that you can catch besides salmon that don’t live on the bottom of the ocean, and salmon aren’t easy to catch and aren’t very common to catch from shore or the dock.
I dont really discriminate on tides and times, but if you had to choose I`d say to go about half an hour before high tide as small food matter is being swept into shore, but it truly doesn`t matter.
You look to be fishing from a fairly nice pier, but if you are going to be fishing from the high parts of the dock that are way above the dock, i would invest in a heavier rod so that you can lift what ever you catch up onto the dock.
I would recommend fishing from the end of the dock as it looks to be deeper from my recollection ( fished there this summer while on vacation) as the larger fish tend to live in the deeper waters around this part or the world.
The fish you can catch are most likely cod, staghorn sculpin, shiner perch, ling (cod), and perhaps flounder if your lucky. If you catch a sculpin be very careful of it`s head as on each of it`s gill plates there are razer sharp spines that can really do damage if you gab it by the head. I would reccomend you step lightly on it`s head so that oyu can remove the hook, for this i would recommend you bring a pair of needle nose pliers.
Stay away from lures and stick to bait as anything will take bait but not everything will take a lure, and a last bit of advice, use a lighter leader than your mainline as there is nothing worse that getting snagged and losing you swivel and most of you mainline, especially when you 50-100 feet down.
Good luck and tight lines

What are some of the best saltwater fishing lures for fishing for blue fish, stripe bass, and those little tuna.
What are some of the best saltwater fishing lures for fishing for blue fish, stripe bass, and those little tuna. For off the new jersey coast, fishing off the beach, jettis, or boats.
A big topwater lure like a Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper or a big metal-lipped saltwater Diving Rapala Magnums. Both work good in saltwater with a mackeral-colored finish.
Here in Southern California, guys in kayaks use the big mackeral-colored Diving Rapala Magnums for thresher shark.

is there any web sites that sell cheap lures?
11.November, 2009
im looking for cheap lures rubber and hard baits.
When finding sites that sell baits in bulk they have closeouts and specials that you will find as excellent prices compared to the retail prices. After Christmas in large sporting goods store is the best time to go in and rummage through their close out dump bins too. Most important if you find baits you use and learn to rely on, when looking for them, put their name in your search and add "closeout" it will come up with your baits and many you find on line will be suitably marked down.
what lures to use for pike in reservoirs?
29.October, 2009
i fish it often and always pull out big bass but i just can’t seem to catch a pike. what lures should i use? and in what colors?
spinner baits, husky jerk, reef runners, even a top water plug will attract a pike, a lot of times they hit out of aggression any lure that has a lot of action will trigger a strike from a muskellunge of any kind.
Is it possible to catch panfish with lures?
27.October, 2009
I go fishing for bluegills and crappie from shore.Nightcrawlers are an excellent bait for them, but I was wondering if lures would work.If so,what kind?
yeah they love them. i go wade fishing all the time and take small rooster tails and plastic worms. i usually like to use red plastic worms and black or red rooster tails. i take the plastic worms and cut them in half and use the end with the tail that spins to fish with. the rooster tails is the best tho or take live minnows and thats what i use for crappie.

I mean lures that aren’t too main stream, like rapalas or money minnows. Y’know. Like when you ask some random person at your lake they don’t just go yeah, i’m using a banjo minnow, i’m using a rapala…
Mine…Gary yamamoto or whatever senkos. watermelon color. Also, mimic minnows are sweet.
So you like Yamamoto Senko’s?

I buy tons of lures and used tackle from EBay. If your careful about who you purchase from you can usually get AMAZING deals on fishing equipment.

hello fellow fishermen, i was wondering if u guys had any tips for using the rapala extreme action slashbait, the rat-l-trap liv-n-sound saltwater lure and the rebel minnow jointed d. or if u recomend any jigs or lures for jacks, or any other inshore game fish. thanks
i have used the extreme action slashbait for bass fishing and it is mildly effective. I basically reel it slow and work it very minimally since it has so much action on its own
