We are canoeing the Ausable River in Michigan next weekend. We will be going from Mio to Lake Huron. We are not experianced fishers, but would like to have a trout dinner one of those nights. We do not have room for any fly fishing rods. We will just be taking our small travel rods. Also, any advice for doing that run? Anything that we should bring, that you don’t usually need, for that run?

The baits you will want to have with you will be as follows Panther marten spinners yellow with red spots and black with yellow spots. Also try white roster tail spinner they work well there also. If you want to try live bait some crawlers would be the ticket. And on advice on that run this time of year bring some warm clothes the water is very cold.

I need your suggestions and recommendations for the best lures you know of (and I mean name and brand) for Muskie, Bass, and Pike. I currently have Zara Spooks, Thunderstick, Rapala surface skimmer, daredevil, Yozuri Popper, Buzzbait, plastic worms, and Wild Eye baby bass. My usual spot is muddy waters, usually sunny but sometimes great overhead is available. Im going to the store tommorow, so thats why I’m asking. Lures and colors?
Oh I also have 3 Algia Mepps, 1 Muskie Killer, and Magnum Muskie Killer
And a couple spinners.. deep diving and shallow diving crankbaits as well.

you got a nice selection there for bass and a couple lures for pike.

things for bass i would add to your collection are…

senkos (any color works great)
yum buzzfrogs (watermelons, pumpkin colors)
spinnerbaits (orange/green, junebug, black, chartruese, red)

for pike i would add…

wild eye baby pike
6-8 inch jointed rapala (firetiger, perch, pike colors work great)

Lures and live bait. There is an area at Chatfield where everyone around me have caught walleye, execpt me, bringing in only channel cats and bass. I was using an Xrap slashbait.

I’ve heard a lot of people use spinners, but i’m confused. Is it the big type of spinner with the rubber skirt and the metal wire and the double willow blades? or is it the little mepps aglia type?

Try an in line spinner with at least 3 feet of line on it and a crawler or leech.

well i want to know what lures are the best to catch Largemouth Bass i haven’t caught one in like a year or so and i really want the information and also when is the best time (noon, morning, or late afternoon) to catch them and what should i use to catch it..I almost forgot where do they often appear…should i cast it in the deep shallow or midway..
Also i spinner lures(the ones with the shiny thingy) will lhose help

the best lure for largemouth are plastic worms or plastic grubs (mr twisiters are the best plastic baits)

I was wandering if I should use jigs or crankbaits. I know bass are moving slower around this temp. Any tips for lure useage would be great!

Try small Jigs (1/8-1/4) with a Berkley Grub or Leech.

A small Husky Jerk minnow works well.

4" Senko fished SUPER slow on a Texas Rig(Using the "dead stick" retrieve).

Here in MN I’ve noticed a "trend" in cold water Bass fishing:
Small lures with very little "large movement" action works best!

My favorite? A black 1/8 oz marabou Hair-jig under a "dial-a-depth" float.

Hope this helps? Good luck!

What would be the best reel between 50-250$ that would be ideal for trout fishing with 4lb test, and 1/8oz lures. I need whichever reel will cast those tiny spinners the farthest. Which would you choose for this ? (please include specific model names or links so I know exactly which reel your tallking about) thanks alot everyone. I really appreciate the advice

There are many good reels in that price range.

And you will probably get many different good answer’s.

Here’s my pick:

Number 1- For years I would only use 2 different company’s for freshwater Spinning reels- Shimano & Daiwa. I wanted the "best" and Shimano & Daiwa always delivered.

BUT, in the last 2-3 years I’ve had tremendous luck with the newly designed Pflueger line of Spinning reels. Currently, they have a great line of spinning reels with the "Supreme" as their flagship model.

I own the Supreme and find it to be as good, (if not BETTER), than anything Daiwa or Shimano has made in that price range. In my opinion, the Supreme is as good as any Shimano Stradic (http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_96667____SearchResults ) or Daiwa Sol (http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74466____SearchResults ).

Here are some links so you can view the Supreme and READ the REVIEWS:

Pflueger Supreme- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_94739____SearchResults

You would want the 8025 size for Trout.

47 people give this reel a 4.8 out of 5.

You can purchase a more expensive reel like a Shimano Stradic, Daiwa Sol, Daiwa Steez, Shimano Stella, Etc- but your best "bang for your buck" reel IS the Supreme.

That’s my 2 cent’s. Hope it helps ya? Good luck in your search.

all right in a young fishermen who has been fishing for 6 years. I know it all except i cant find the right lure to use in ponds and fishing in lake on shore. Ive fished alot with worms and i know they dont last too long. Somedays would be better then others with normal lures. But what lure is like 80% likely to catch a big fish in about 2 hours?

If I could only have 1 lure,it would be a Mann’s Baby minus 1 crankbait,chartruese/firetiger in color. Easy to use, doesnt snag much, and I have caught a ton of fish with them. second choice would be a black skirted buzz bait.

I have over a hundred vintage fishing lures that were my dad’s. They are in really good shape, but need cleaning. I need to know the best way to clean them without damage to them.

for starters, do not use anything stronger than mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush for scrubbing. if any are painted wood, l would not touch them with even that for fear of removing any paint. plastic lures should be okay. l pulled a crankbait from the lake that was covered in growth and after a mild scrubbing, the finish looks almost new.
but painted plugs can get hairline cracks in the paint over the years and water may penetrate and lift paint chips which will lessen any value.
make a shadow box for display in their present condition.
