I just got a Rebel Minnow, and it was the best $4 i ever spent. Ive had it for 4 days and ive caught over 25 fish with it. Ive caught a lot of sunfish and a few good sized bass. The other day i was fishing and my phone rang. I answered it, and while i was talking i dipped the minnow into the water. The second i did that a fish went after it. This lure is like a fish magnet! But anyway, what other lures attract fish? Be specific with names of lures please.

I prefer 2 lures for BIG BASS. The jig and pig or jig and craw both are proven time and time again as BIG BASS catchers. Also try any lures that are larger than you’d usually use. Try a Heddon Zara Spook. Use the walk the dog method on choppy water for great results! Almost anything that’s too big for a smaller bass will attract the BIG BOYS. Try any soft plastic worms that are 10 inches or more. I like YUM worms due to the fact that they hold together very well. I have caught several bass on 1 single worm, as opposed to say a senko that when used can usually only land 1 bass, maybe 2 if your lucky. You can use a larger size original floater by Rapala to get larger bass also. It is more knowing where the big boys are hiding while paying attention to conditions such as water temp, clarity, air temp, your retrieval speed, your techniques, etc… You can catch a lunker on a finesse jig, or an 8 inch crankbait. You have to learn how bass think before you can understand how they feed. Here is a good site you can use to learn about bass and their habits alittle more. You can learn all sorts of good stuff at this site. I know for sure that it helped me a great deal. Keep your line tight and you bait wet, BASS Fisherman

We are fishing over a shallow flat that is surrounded by deep water. Thanks! Do you have a favorite color , lure, and boat speed or presentation, thanks. Billy

personally, i would use a Lindy rig, sinker, long leader and drag a live, luscious, sexy minnow by the lips. Cast out, let it sink onto the bottom and keep your finger on the line and when you get a tap tap tap…be ready to feed it line until its run "enough"

Then hit it…hard!

The color of the lure you choose to catch a big bass is dictated by the sun. School’s in session at http://bassprofessor.com/

I have aphids in my balcony garden and I was looking into introducing some ladybugs to eat them. Everyone I have tried is sold out and ordering them online is very expensive (S&H). I see that there are ‘lures’ and ‘houses’ sold to attract ladybugs but since this is right outside my balcony door, I am concerned about what other bugs may be attracted by these…it says the lures smell like aphids, wouldn’t that attract ants for example? Does anyone have more information on this?

Lures usually smell like other ladybugs, especially the females.

The problem with so many ladybugs is they are collected when they are in their "winter swarm"….a kind of nonsexual congreational party. When they are released in your garden, they are awake from this winter haze and do what they would do normally…….fly away.

Some of the stay at home type LB have been specially prepped to say closer to the release area, but don’t expect to see them all in your garden.

As for the aphids……….you can reduce the population with water, a hard blast will dislodge many and they don’t return. Actually LBs are just one of many predatory insects on aphids. You need to learn what to look for to determine if maybe other predators are already there.

One big boost is to control the ants in your garden. Ants are aphid guards, they attack aphid predators. Ants eat the sugary discharge from the aphid so it is in their interest to keep the "cow" aphid safe.

Lures such as rapalas or spinners. i’ve always used a spinner, but i got a baitcast for my birthday. just wondering if i should switch.

spinnerbaits, either one will work equally well.

I prefer baitcaster for lipped baits like rapala, where rod action is more important on the retrieve — walking the dog for example — seems to work better.

Also with multiple sets of treble hooks, casting accuracy is crucial when you’re working cover.

We go pike fishing every year in Sage Lake in Hale Michigan, and I have had some success with walleye rigs and crawler harnesses, but I’d like to know if anyone knows of some other lures and hooks that work well.

Pike (as mentioned above) love spoons such as larger versions of Daredevils but also love Rapalas. try floating rapalas and let them sink pretty deep right along the weed line. that will attract them suckers very well (I recommend using a perch colored rapala because they are native baitfish for the pike). best of luck to you and hope you catch a massive pike!

What lures do you use? Or do you just use bait and a plain hook? Wanted to try for anything – river has northern, bass, walleye, catfish, bullhead, etc. Never fished in river before and dont have a clue. Worried that we’re just going to get everything snagged. We’re fishing from shore…

Here I end up with jig heads and "grubs" mostly green or white in color
weight depends on the rod I want to use that day from 1/8 to 1/4 Oz heads. The larger heads are good for casting into deeper pools of water and the lighter ones for shallow slower moving waters. Nice thing is, you can get a pack of heads and a pack or two of grubs for less the $10. and fish for days with good results.

If your in the US head for walmart I use the plain un painted ones and the basic plastic grubs.

Entice big fish like muskie and largemouth bass by using LARGE lures with a realistic retrieve. School’s in session at http://bassprofessor.com
