What lures works best in Boundary Waters canoe area?
28.August, 2009
HI all, I’m going the the BWCA this wednesday and am wondering what is the best lures are for the bass and northern. Last time I went we had a group of 6 people and we caught one fish in 4 days. I really don’t want to repeat that situation.
Try a jig spinner with gulp. Also take along a fe extra jigs and a few rapala’s. Have fun there.

How do I use topwater lures?
24.August, 2009
I am going to buy a few topwater lures, but first how do I use them?
Any advice, tips, links etc.? I will most likely purchase an interesting one like a frog, insect, or mouse. So how do I use them?
Make a cast into that great looking spot, and then as soon as the bait hits the water make that first little twitch with the bait, and after that, what usually happens is wham!!! A bass comes over and nails it. If they don’t nail it the first time, wait and "pop" it some more. Popping is when you make the lure bounce on the water and splash water to cause the bass to strike. Try it over and over at different speeds to see what works best. I advise you to also try the Hula Popper, Rebel Pop-R and Rapala Skitter Pop. They’re all other great top-water baits.
Hope i helped ya out.

I have a cottage up on big gull lake in canada. It is freshwater. I usually fish of the dock with rapala lures but that hasn’t brought me much luck.
I would go with plastic worms if the hard lures aren’t working off of the docks. If you use crawdads, then let ‘em hit the bottom, and bump them once in a while to look lifelike.

What lures work well in the ocean?
20.August, 2009
I want to know which lures work well in the ocean. Like for catching barracuda or any other fish. Right now i have Krocodile fishing lure but it won’t catch any thing. So I would like to know which lures I should get or how to use the "Krocodile" lure correctly.
For some odd reasons, Krocoiles don’t work as well as Kastmasters on barracuda. I thought they will work equally well on all species but I was wrong. Gold color Kastmasters will work better than other colors on barracudas. Be sure you use bigger Kastmasters when barracudas are around. They’ll hit the smaller ones but there’s a chance that barracudas will swallow the spoon whole; if a barracuda swallows anything whole, it means its razor sharp teeth teeth will be in direct contact with your line and it usually means you won’t see that lure again. Diamond jigs with tube tails or bucktails will work pretty well on barracudas too. Since barracuda usually hit the tube tail part of the lure, the chances of loosing your lure will decrease significantly. Barracudas like flashy colors such as bright red and bright green. Tube tail diamond jigs won’t work on as many species as Kastmasters though. There’s a tube tail Kastmaster available and they’ll work very nicely on barracudas. Unfortunately, they’ll cost more. Surface irons will work on barracuda as well as other species. Chrome/blue, chrome/green and green/yellow will all work. Crankbaits will work on barracudas as well. Be prepared to see your crankbaits get chewed up though; there’ll be LOT’s of deep teeth marks on the crankbait.
Barracudas like to chase down their preys. So, you should try fast retrieves and cut down the speed until you got hit. If you want to catch other species, you could slow down your retrieve even more. Spoons like Krocodiles and Kastmasters usually work well with slow retrieves unless you’re targeting barracudas. The slowest speed which will still keep the spoon wobbling could work better than faster retrieves on many species.
PS: Krocodiles are very nice spoons for saltwater species. They are very versatile. You could vertical jig them too. They’ll work very well once you found the best retrieve speed. It’s a little harder to find the best speed for Krocodiles than Kastmasters and there is less margin for error. But once you found "the speed" for them, Krocodiles could work better than Kastmasters on certain species.
What kind of lures do bass and walleye like to hit?
18.August, 2009
What lures should i use for
Warm
Cold
Clear
Brackish
Weeds
ect.
I have a few rapalas and spinners. also about half a container of gulp alive minnows.
For bass I like to use 4" or 5"Yamamoto Senkos. They are simple to use. Just Texas rig them weightless and cast to anywhere you might find bass. Let them sink to the bottom and watch your line.If it "twitches" or moves in an awkward direction set the hook.Best colors are watermelon , green pumpkin,or junebug on a a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG hook and don’t be afraid to try red hooks sometimes that triggers them better.
For walleye try jointed #9 Rapalas or Bomber Long A lures. I like Firetiger ,chartreuse, blue and silver for colors. Also you may want to try worm harnesses(usually 2 or 3 hooks rigged up with 1 or more spinners and beads in front) tipped with a night crawler or a couple of leaches. Fish shallow flats or points at night or troll deep weed edges anytime. Another good method is casting twister tailed jigs on lead heads on deep weed edges or rocky areas. Black, white and chartreuse are good colors here as well.
Tight-lines and remember the worst day fishing is better than the best day of working!
