Gone Fishin’!

My mom gave me a 210lr reel and a rod that was my dads. I took it home cleaned it up works good. My dad passed away 11 years ago. I was just trying to see if they were good reels or not and about how old he got back some what into fishing in the mid 80’s Not planning to use it just going to put it in my den.

The 210 was a very popular spincast reel. Dating it to the mid 80’s is about right. Most spincast reels are considered "kids" or "beginners" reels, and a lot of them were/are not made all that well. The 210 was an exception. This reel was of very good quality compared to most others, and it would still be fine to use today if you chose to.

Sadly, they’re not on Daiwas website, as far as i know. anyone know where i can get the prices of them?

i think that’s what it’s called. But i’m talking about that line that is put under the top length of line. like i have about 50 meters of 12 pound line on my reel and then under that will be some other sort of line. Whats it used for?

Backing can be used as a way of saving line. Using a cheaper line under more expensive better line like mono under superline, can help save you more superline. One of the main reasons though, is to prevent line from "digging" into the spool. Braid can really do that. A way to alleviate that is to put a little mono backing on the reel then add the braid. Connect with a knot that’s good for joining lines. The mono doesn’t dig into the spool and the braid digs down into the mono. There may be more reasons, but those are my two.

In other words, if I am playing a quarter slot machine and am playing just one quarter at a time when I hit a big jackpot, is my correct mental response:1) DAMN! Wish I had been playing THREE quarters–I would have won XXXX more dollars. Or 2) Good thing I was playing one quarter since that’s what this machine was ready to hit on.

NOT looking for OPINIONS. Hoping someone out there is a techie who has a definite ANSWER to this question.

yes and no the number of coins played has no effect on the symbols that appear. but in the time it would have taken you to play more coin the RNG would have cycled to a different point and a different result would be on the reels.

I can’t seem to find this information, roughly what year did cinemas start using digital film? Also, does anyone know how much cheaper this was and any other details

My local cinema still uses reels.

My economics teacher wants to unload about 50 vintage educational film reels on me. I used to work at a movie theater and I heard of people being able to sell film so it can get burnt down and used as film stock. I really have no use for any of these films. I tried searching on ebay and couldn’t find anyone selling anything like what I have. Anyone have any knowledge to share?

You can’t recycle film- once the silver has oxidized- its wasted- you could try selling (or more likely donating) it to a film archive or stock footage company.

Also how does the different types of fishing line effect casting with baitcasting reels?

In part is less line friction with smaller diameter lines but it also is the rod(action & length),reel(spool design) and weight of lure or weight used for casting!
Any properly set up rod n reel will be able to cast some distance but what are you looking for?
With the advent of the braids we can put heavier lb line with smaller diameters on reels which can increase casting distance.
