I just got a Shakespeare Microspin Spinning Combo and intend to use it in the ocean. I am not looking to catch big fish, just small fish. Will this rod work in the salt water?

The main difference these days is size and strength. When I was a kid back in the 1970′s, I had a friend who had a Garcia Mitchell 300 reel which rusted up after one use in the salt (which turned me off that brand for life), while my Penn spinning reels never had a problem.

However, I haven’t heard of any problems like that recently, especially not with real name brand equipment, so I think manufacturers are making all their reels basically rust-resistant. There are a lot of people these days who use "freshwater" equipment for saltwater fishing.

In general, you should just spray the rod and reel with fresh water at the end of the day to get the salt off, and at the end of the season (or if it gets dunked in salt water), open up the reel and clean it out and re-lube it. This isn’t so much for the rust, but more to get dried salt and other junk out of the reel (you should do this even for saltwater reels).

The main difference between the fresh and the salt is you’ll have to replace your line more frequently, as the salt water breaks it down more quickly. Once the line loses its new, shiny look, it’s also losing strength, which can make a big difference with very light line.

Joannie Madden on Whistle

20.August, 2009

One of the queens of the tin whistle, Joannie Madden plays a selection of reels commencing with “The High Reel” and concluding with a recent composition by Joannie called “Shoot When the Ducks are Flying”. Guitar accompaniment is by Daithí Sproule. We made this recording at the 2007 Comhaltas American Convention held in Atlanta, Georgia. Incidentally, the next Convention will be held in Parsippany in March of 2008.  More videos at comhaltas.ie.

We have large arches, and it would look so much easier if we had really long pieces, as opposed to sticking a few pieces together. Either 5 meters+, or just a large reel of it, and we can cut off correct lengths.

Thanks

I have footage from two films I have done and want to get my scenes spliced together in a manner that will look very professional. Any known companies in the area?

Check the folks at HD Net and see if they have any people who freelance.

Also, there is an editing facility at the Studios of Los Colinas.

And there are any number of sound and video production teams that are good in the yellow pages. Specialize in commercials, but it isn’t that different anymore.

I’ve noticed that whenever I click on any video relating to NFL action on ESPN that all I get are still shots of the action rather than streaming video. Is this a licensing issue?

It’s a stupid new rule that the billionaires at the NFL decided to make because they just don’t make enough money. Tightwads!! See the article attached.

I’m looking for a left handed baitcaster. All I mostly found was the Shimano Curado 201. Are there any other brands out there that make left handed baitcasters?

it comes with a baiting system that is far superior to anything out there..it is called the master-baiter

I’m fairly new to the digital editing thing, and some of my better work is with the music videos I’ve created using movie clips and popular songs for which I’ve paid for the materials but don’t actually have any distribution rights. Is it ever okay to put these in my reels for prospective employers to view in private interviews, or is that always a no-no?

What you are telling would fall within the purview of "Fair- Use". of a copyrighted material. You have even paid for the copyrighted material and you are using it for private, non-commercial purpose.
