No they can get really really sick and die of toxic shock syndrome. I was told never to wear one at night, to be on the safe side.

I am buying my boyfriend a fly rod and reel for christmas..it is for catching tarpon. I don’t know what type of retrieve to get him..left hand or right hand? He is right handed, but I don’t know how it works with fishing.

For Tarpon I would recommend getting the reel for the opposite of his casting arm – if he casts right-handed, get a reel that has the retrieve knob on the left. Most of today’s reels (the good ones)
are interchangeable between right and left hand retrieve.

I would recommend a reel that would accommodate at least a
10 weight fly-line + 250/300 yds of backing for tarpon,
preferably a large arbor variety. Make sure it is a saltwater reel,
since they are made to be corrosion proof.

Some brands to consider are Orvis, Lamson, Abel and Ross

In 1937, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his son, Elliot, came to Port Aransas, Texas to do some Tarpon fishing. In this clip you will see the president land one of several Tarpon he caught here.
Also in this film you will see Guide Teddy Mathews at the helm of his Farley built ‘Marcy Boat’. Barney Farley Sr set the trip up and also deckhanded to make sure all went smoothly for the president.
You can read Farley’s account of this event in his book ‘Fishing Yesterdays Gulf Coast’.
This video was obtained from the FDR Library by Farley’s grandson Keith Farley and delivered to me by Barney Farley III, both of whom are very involved in local historical research.

fishing for snook

What are you fishing for? Don’t say "anything" because they don’t all live in the same places or get caught using the same techniques.

With it being so hot they will be under the mangroves, docks or any other structure providing shade (bridges ect) Also early mornings around seawalls and night time around dock lights. They can be caught in the surf as well. the move back and forth from the deep troughs to the shallow shoreline waters. Throw anything resembeling a minnow or baitfish. Like a mirrodine, catch 2000, hollowbellied swimbaits, topwater plugs or anything like that

I want to keep a Tarpon what size tank do I need and what advice can you give me for care instructions?Should I just fence him in like Flipper?

http://media.photobucket.com/image/tarpon/ethank_photo/strike-tarpon.jpg?o=12

I think your best bet would to fence it off like Flipper, lol. The females get like nine feet long so you’d need a tank that’s several thousands gallons (public aquarium sized) which would cost a sh!t ton of money to maintain.

Here’s a pretty helpful link: http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/gallery/Descript/Tarpon/Tarpon.html

I hope you’re not serious, but it is a fun fish to catch.

Watch as a six foot+ Tarpon is wrestled in the torrent waters off of a Daytona Peir on October 26, 2007.

* I know it is poor quality and the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song doesn’t help, but it is still an amazing video to watch.

* And JUST FOR THE FREAK’N RECORD. I WAS MINDING MY OWN BUSINESS FISHING FOR SHARK WHEN THE GUY WHO CAUGHT IT GOT MY LIFE ENTANGLED WITH HIS. THEREFORE, I WAS FORCED TO TRY TO HELP.

i would like a white one if possible. its not nessasary to have papers because i am going to be mix breeding it with a long haired chihuahua i will be needing to get this done very soon. today is 10/2/06. i would like to pay sud fee if there is one, hopfully not to high. i just lost my girl of 16 years and she was the same breed and miss her dearly.

Oh my dear. You will not be able to replace the one you just lost. Please don’t expect to find a look-alike puppy and want the same behavior from her. That isn’t fair to her or you.

I do understand your grief. I run a shelter for aged dogs and should be used to it by now, but I just lost my own 14 year old shepherd mix and still look for her during the day and cry at the drop of a hat. It’s something that will take time.

Please think about the good times you had with your girl, and know that those memories are special. SHE was special. She cannot be replaced, no matter how much you want to have her back. That’s too big of a hole in your heart right now, right???

Give yourself some time, cry a lot (that’s normal, you do miss her!), then go to a shelter and RESCUE a little animal that needs your love. You sounds like a very caring person in a lot of pain, so I know you would be great and take care of a new pet.

You will probably get some nasty answers because of the way you phrased your question about breeding. A lot of people are against "backyard breeding" because of the huge amount of unwanted pets already in the world, with no homes, awaiting euthanasia.

But I see what you’re trying to do, and ask you to please give yourself some time, then find another little girl or guy who may be already on this earth, waiting just for you to show up and rescue them! Your little girl has gone to where she can see and hear and walk without pain. Try to find some comfort in that, and take care of yourself. There are lots of other babies who need your love.

Best wishes to you.
