What lures do you use to fish in a river?
30.August, 2009
What lures do you use? Or do you just use bait and a plain hook? Wanted to try for anything – river has northern, bass, walleye, catfish, bullhead, etc. Never fished in river before and dont have a clue. Worried that we’re just going to get everything snagged. We’re fishing from shore…
Here I end up with jig heads and "grubs" mostly green or white in color
weight depends on the rod I want to use that day from 1/8 to 1/4 Oz heads. The larger heads are good for casting into deeper pools of water and the lighter ones for shallow slower moving waters. Nice thing is, you can get a pack of heads and a pack or two of grubs for less the $10. and fish for days with good results.
If your in the US head for walmart I use the plain un painted ones and the basic plastic grubs.

Good info everyone.
An important factor is also how deep the river is. Sounds like the river has a large selection of aquatic species to choose from. Here is one of the many sites that list out lures for fresh water fishing. Copy & Paste the below link into your browser.
