How do you make a good football tackle?
20.November, 2009
I just started playing I love defense and hitting people but Im a small guy (5′8 148 lbs) and I don’t always bring the guy down. Usually I just aim for the legs but is there any better way to make a good tackle?
All I can say is the lowest guy wins.
That and wrap, even if you don’t take him down alone you’ll at least slow him down long enough to get help.

I think the best way to tackle is…
Use your facemask, NEVER the top of the helmet
Try to hit the guy right in the chest plate
If you can’t bring him down, keep fighting 1 of your teammates will gang tackle
If he’s runnin all over yalls team, go for the legs
LAST BUT NOT LEAST always try to knock the crap out of the guy

Backstop’s no varsity LB. You don’t use your face mask on a chest plate, for many reasons. You use your shoulder at the best angle and height you can get at. Don’t EVER worry about knocking the crap out of the guy. You have enough to worry about to just tackle them. It doesn’t matter if you knock the crap out of them or not, as long as you tackle them. Hitting someone hard does not instill fright in them.

Hey. Well firsrt of all i dont know what mindy is talking about. Backstop gave some good advice. Anyway, I have played football for a while now. im in 11th grade but im out this season due to a shoulder injury… Anyway there are a few basic concepts for a smaller person to bring someone down. You have the most important part down. Staying low is definitely the key to a good tackle. Keeping your shoulders square to the running back is also important. Driving through the tackle is important as well. However the second most important thing to making a good form tackle is using your body. never tackle someone with just your arms. not only will you get hurt, like me :), but the tackle will not be made and your coach will be furious.

Rugby tackle that ho.
Aim low, try to get your shoulder in the guy’s navel, grab around the back of his legs and drive upwards forcing him either backwards, or to the side. He won’t run over your if you wrap up.
