Tarpon fishing-the sport of millionaires as it is called, is truly a sport rather than a way to get a meal. You will NOT want to eat the tarpon. I saw one in the surf with a bull shark once, and the shark wasn’t trying to eat it (also attributable to the abundance of bait fish which they were eating). My state- Alabama has some of the most liberal game laws on everything, and they require a prepurchased $50.00 tag to harvest one. Dont know why you would, though. But I cant argue their entertainment value. By the way, they are our state fish and the state record was caught across the street from my house.
Lure them in with us!

Tarpon are an excellent game fish. I guess you could eat them if dying of starvation, but the bones and texture of meat make them quite unappealing.
$50.00 take tag in Fl. too. It’s for people who want to have the actual fish mounted, not just a fiberglass rep.

I don’t know about where you live, but in Texas, I guess they could be eaten, but not legally, they are strictly catch and release.

Just a game fish. Very few dare to eat one. Very bony, oily, and mushy.
